With Valentine’s Day only around the corner and if you find yourself with no plans (Whether you’re single or in a relationship), here are six film suggestions to watch…

lebellelavie - Six films to watch on Valentine's Day

As tomorrow’s Valentine’s Day, I thought I would write today’s post about 6 films you can watch for it whether these are with a friend, your other half or just by yourself. I’m not really fussed by Valentine’s Day and have never really seen the appeal, even when being in a relationship. I think Greg and I maybe went out for dinner for the first two years for our relationship, I know last year we agreed we weren’t gonna bother and this year, we’ve just bought a book for each other. However, I do like watching a movie or two and as I’ve gotten older, I do have a soft spot for a chick flick or two.

I have to admit some of these were my go to films when I felt sad after a break up with an ex-boyfriend as they were relatable to me at the time. These days, I just enjoy watching them and Greg also loves a good chick flick.

10 Things I Hate About You

If you love a film about teen dating, reminisce about the ’90s and see a very young Heath Ledger/Joseph Gordon-Levitt then this may be a film that’s right up your street. The actual plot of the film is based on Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew but has obviously been adapted to fit in with modern day, or so as it was in 1999 when the film was released… If you don’t believe me then you can check it out here. It’s easy watching and you don’t have to pay too much attention to it to understand what’s going on.

I only watched this film recently and I thought that it’s probably relatable to guys or even girls that have no confidence to speak to someone that they like. In comes Hitch aka Will Smith to help enable this confidence for you. I don’t really need to say any more than that as you will understand what I mean if you’ve either already or are going to watch it.

(500) Days of Summer

Probably my favourite on this list. If you’ve ever been friend zoned or had someone be misleading to you then you’ll probably relate. Or if not but you have a love for bands like The Smiths, Joy Division, The Pixies and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (again) and Zoeey Deschanel then this will be right up your street. If I’m perfectly honest, the whole reason I originally watched it was for the scene that features the line “I love The Smiths” as I am that girl who would say that. The Smiths are my favourite band and growing up with virtually no one had heard of them it was very much a novelty to find someone who actually had until I went to college of course.

Bridget Jones’ Diary

Whether you’re a guy or a girl, I think we all go through a phase in our lives when we feel like Bridget Jones when it comes to our love lives. Whether you’re single and trying to find Mr. Right or not, I think we can all relate to at least one of her personality traits. It’s easy going and a reasonably funny film so a perfect and probably most obvious choice whether you’re single or with that special someone.

P.S. I Love You

This film always makes me cry and will most likely make you cry as it’s so sad. So be warned, if you watch it, make sure you have a box of tissues ready! Although if you’ve done your makeup nicely and with a date then perhaps it would be one to avoid! Despite the film being incredibly sad, it’s also really sweet and a much more realistic perspective of love than a generic equilibrium of a chick flick.

Mr & Mrs. Smith

If chick flicks aren’t so much your thing and you love a bit of action then why not watch something like this? After all, it is directed by the same Director as the Bourne films and Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt before/when they started getting together.

Are you planning to watch any films this Valentines Day?
