Getting personal: 25 facts about me at 25 years of age

Getting personal: 25 facts about me at 25 years of age

I thought I would write a “25 facts about me” post while I’m 25 because even if no one else finds it interesting at least I can one day look back and see how much my life has changed. Although, this post idea had been sitting in my drafts for well over six months seeing as I’m technically now closer to 26 than my 25th birthday… EEEK!! Oh well, better late than never, eh?

I also don’t really know how much I portray myself online and one thing I always like reading on someone’s blog is their personal posts and getting to know more about them. I don’t mean that in a creepy, stalkerish way but more in a way like as if they were my friend.

Right, shall I get started? Okay, here goes…

#1 – I share the same birthday as Audrey Hepburn although obviously not the same year as daayymn, I would be looking good for my age. The actual day is 4th May and yes, I did know that it’s National Star Wars Day and I have heard the “Do you like Star Wars?” or “May the Fourth be with you” jokes many, many times. Also, I do like Star Wars in case you’re wondering.

#2 – I’m the eldest child out of four, and have two sisters and one brother. We’re also full siblings and not half or step as people often assume.

#3 – I’ve been vegetarian my whole life as a lot of my family are vegetarian. I’m currently trying to eat more ethical and environmentally-friendly by cutting down on the amount of dairy I eat.

#4 – I’m a cat and a dog person as I have grown up with both.

#5 – I’ve flown with the Red Arrows and appeared on BBC News because of it. If you don’t believe me you can view it here. I also wrote a post on it which you can read here.

#6 – I currently have two guinea pigs called Arwen and Arna.

#7 – I’ve been to Glastonbury Festival three times and both Reading and Boomtown Festivals once. I also wrote a post on 11 Festival Essentials.

#8 – In my teenage years, I used to be a Sea Cadet and had many opportunities such as fly, sail, shoot and do numerous walking expeditions. I’m wondering whether to write a post on how much my experience within the Sea Cadets helps me in everyday life, thoughts…?

#9 – Prior to my Sea Cadet days, I used to attend a local drama group and performed in the first stage adaption of Thomas Hardy’s The Distracted Preacher. I was also had a small role in The Mayor of Casterbridge where I still remember my line that said, “And old bugger Henchard ain’t half as clever nor near so understandin” in a Westcountry accent.

One of the pantomime’s I was an extra in – can you spot an 11 year old me?

#10 – When I was 14, my parents took us to Disney World Florida and we were spontaneously asked by the staff if we would like to appear in the Animal Kingdom Disney Parade. Much to my parents’ dismay, of course, we said yes! Sadly I have no photos of this as this predates the days of selfies being the norm which makes me sound so old.

#11 – I hold all three Duke of Edinburgh Awards and was presented my Gold Award at St James’ Palace by none other than Prince Phillip himself. I have also successfully completed the 45 Mile Ten Tors Expedition. Thanks to an old and worn out pair of walking boots it took my poor feet a week to recover and as a result, I had to use a walking stick and a wheelchair – no joke!

We had a speech from Adam Hart-Davies and a photo taken with him.

#12 – I have a pretty eclectic music taste where I’ll go from listening to Taylor Swift to Rammstein to Elvis Presley. My favourite band has been The Smiths since I was 12 but my favourite music genres are ’50s Rock n’ Roll, ’60s Garage Rock, ’70s Rock, ’80s New Wave. I could write a whole post on bands I love but maybe that’s one for another time.

#13 – I completed my degree at the University of Winchester and am probably one of their only students (If not the only!) to have completed a degree in BA (hons) Archaeology & Journalism Studies. I’ve written a post here all about my degree.

#14 – As a child, my career aspirations varied from:

  • Archaeologist
  • Journalist
  • Photographer
  • Meteorologist
  •  Actress
  • Pop Star

The amusing thing is I’ve either studied or been in social clubs where this was a part of it and in their roundabout way have taken me on to my interest in advertising and marketing.

#15 – I’m originally from Somerset but have lived in Hampshire for the last five and a half years of my life. Just to clarify, no I don’t sound like a farmer.

#16 – My Dad’s an indie novelist and I’ve helped design a couple of his book covers. If you like fantasy and zombie novels then his writing will be right up your street! You can check them out here.

#17 – I’ve blogged on and off since I was 16/17 but never really made it public since starting this blog. I was too shy and nervous about being judged on my own writing but since discovering Birds Words and Hannah Gale’s blogs and the rest of the blogging community, I felt inspired to open up to it.

#18 – I said I would never make YouTube videos after a traumatic experience making a documentary assignment at uni – okay, slight exaggeration but when you’re a third-year student juggling different modules, a dissertation, and a part-time job, it certainly felt like it. However, I did try and it wasn’t for me so don’t expect many videos from me anytime soon.

#19 – I used to be a massive bookworm as a child but just grew out of it as I got older and had college/uni but I’m slowly regaining my love for it and it feels so rewarding and refreshing just delving into a book for a while.

#20 – I’m a big fan of kids films and Disney. I also like action, psychological and thriller films. Some Sci-Fi films are also okay but I’m not a fan of horror.

#21 – Beauty and the Beast, 101 Dalmatians, Aristocats, Toy Story and Pirates of the Caribbean are my favourite Disney films. Iron Man is my favourite Avenger and both Forrest Gump and Inception are my favourite films. Basically, I love any film that has Leonardo Di Caprio or Tom Hanks in it.

#22 – I’ve never been one for being an avid TV watcher. I quite often watch TV series years after they’ve finished as I just never get round to watching them. However, my favourite TV shows in no particular order are as follows:

  • The Mighty Boosh
  • Friends
  • How I Met Your Mother
  • Revenge
  • Gossip Girl
  • Once Upon A Time
  • Black Adder
  • Riverdale
  • Bottom
  • Peep Show
  • Grimm
  • Peaky Blinders

#23 – Shifting back to jobs and careers, I want to eventually work in advertising and marketing. Whether that’s for an agency or a brand, here’s to hoping. I’m also in the process of studying a distance learning masters, through Falmouth University, in Advertising Strategy & Planning.

#24 – I want to go travelling and see so many parts of the World so I’m currently writing up a bucket list of all the places I want to go.

#25 – I’ve also ridden a camel.
